There is no question that many of us in the world have spent the last year wishing for something Closer to Normal.

As I prepared the tracks contained in this album, I spent some time thinking about the experience of living through unpleasant and unfamiliar circumstances. Time becomes distorted, slowing as we wait for something negative to pass, and it seems to speed up as it passes behind us into the deep well of our past. We look back and remember how difficult it was to endure the slow creeping of time, but from the vantage point of now that period of time looks as if it has been compressed into only a fraction of the original length that we experienced.

The first track, entitled Closer to Normal, is a long-form exploration of patience, repetition and familiarity. The tracks that follow, Closer - Parts II through V, are the same exact track simply distorted by altering the speed and pitch of the original long-form track.

Closer - Part II is exactly half the length of the long-form track, pitched down 12 semi-tones.

Closer - Part III is exactly one-quarter the length of the long-form track, pitched down 24 semi-tones.

Closer - Part IV is exactly one-eighth the length of the long-form track, pitched down 36 semi-tones.

And, Closer - Part V is exactly one-sixteenth the length of the long-form track, pitched down 48 semi-tones.

Each subsequent alteration in length and pitch changes the character of the track significantly, and while each may initially sound foreign or distorted, with additional time spent listening you may find that they sound Closer to Normal.
