about

Elements One: Beeswax and Rust was originally released in 2012 and up until now was only available though the Archive.org website, where it can still be found. The original description from that release follows below.

Beeswax and rust both occur in nature, although through very different processes. Both are produced from other materials; beeswax from a combination of chemicals processed and secreted by honey bees and rust from the oxidation of iron in the presence of water or moisture in the air. And while both beeswax and rust occur in nature with no help from man, the presence and actions of man can have an impact on the production of both.

Elements One takes its inspiration from these two diverse yet similar products of nature.

What would the process of bees creating beeswax sound like? Bees must make noise on some miniscule level as they process the components of beeswax within their bodies and secrete it in the form of honeycomb. Could the sound be recorded and reproduced?

What about the sound of iron slowly rusting, with cycles of heat and moisture speeding along the progression from iron to iron oxide? When you compare a pristine metal surface with one totally altered by rust it’s hard to imagine there wouldn’t have been some sound created by the transformation. What would the transformation sound like?

As you listen to Elements One: Beeswax and Rust try to imagine each of these processes and how they occur, suspending your concept of time as we perceive it and letting your mind instead experience the slow, rhythmic pulse of nature transforming elements from one thing to another.
